Wellen Park ceiling questions, short answers
The questions Wellen Park homeowners ask most when they start looking up.
Reviewed . Sources appear below the guide.
- Why plan ceiling lights and boards on one drawing?
- Each light, fan box or speaker is an opening between a hot attic and the cooled room below. Drawing fixtures on the board or coffer layout makes it easier to group them and avoid openings the design does not need.
- What climate zone is Sarasota County in?
- The DOE Building America county guide lists Sarasota County as hot-humid, IECC climate zone 2A.
- Where should smoke alarms go on a beamed ceiling?
- The U.S. Fire Administration says on the ceiling or high on a wall, following the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific alarm. Mark alarm spots on the ceiling plan before work starts.
- Who should move hardwired smoke alarms?
- USFA says only qualified electricians should install hardwired smoke alarms.
- How do I figure out coffer size?
- Coffer = (room dimension − (number of coffers − 1) × beam width) ÷ number of coffers. An 18 by 24 foot room in a 3 by 4 grid with 6-inch beams gives roughly 68 by 67.5 inch coffers.
- Does board direction change the material needed?
- Barely. In our 18 by 24 foot example with a 5.5-inch face, running boards lengthwise takes 40 rows (about 960 linear feet) and running across takes 53 rows (about 954 linear feet).
- Which way should ceiling boards run in an open plan?
- Lengthwise boards make a room feel longer and crosswise boards make it feel wider. Many people run them toward the main view, such as the sliders to the lanai.
- Do wood ceilings suit newer Wellen Park homes?
- Often. Many houses in Wellen Park neighborhoods have tall, flat, painted ceilings, which leave room for beams, coffers or wood boards. Check attic heat and smoke alarm placement first; our guides on each are linked below.
- How much does an accent ceiling cost?
- You will not find prices here: ceiling heights, spans and lighting plans vary too much from house to house. Trim My Crib measures and prices each ceiling in person.
- Which homes is this guide written for?
- Homes in Wellen Park, Osprey, Venice, Manasota Key, Casey Key, Nokomis and South Sarasota, Florida. No other areas.
